Greens are usually available on a turn up and play basis. All competition games MUST be noted in the club diary, and this will give those matches priority over other attendees. Wednesday afternoon is reserved for the Wednesday Triples Matches (WTM)
The club for the forthcoming season (2024) is in several Oxfordshire Leagues. We compete in the Oxfordshire Men's League Division 4, team captain Ian Jackman This year we are we will also be fielding a full ladies team in the newly started Oxfordshire Ladies League. The Ladies captain, Jeanine Venter, will welcome all comers to play in her team. We will also compete in the Oxfordshire Mixed Triples League (OMTL), in division 2 captained by Brian Meikle. We have many friendly fixtures where we play in Oxfordshire, Warwickshire and Northamptonshire and which are a good starting point for beginners to get match experience. Friendly matches are captained by Steve Prole.
Bloxham Bowls Club is well known and is a friendly and successful club. Set in the north of Oxfordshire it has been a thriving bowls club since 1957. The last few years, as they have been for all bowls clubs, tested our resilience but the club is continuing to thrive having recruited several new members over the last two seasons and we look forward to more new members for 2024. If you are at all interested in the game contact us through the details on the web site, just turn up on match day or attend our Wednesday afternoons triples matches, WTM - a triples match played over 15 ends with each player rotating every 5 ends between Lead, Second and Skip.
The game of bowls can be enjoyed by everybody, no matter what age, sex or disability. We are always looking for new members. How many times have people thought about 'just having a go'; please don't worry, come along and sample the game and it's hospitality. Experience is not necessary as we have coaches available who can help if required. A player in their first years can sometimes be as good as someone who has been playing for a number of years.
Newcomers can practice and learn the game themselves at their own pace or take advantage of the clubs own coaches to aid their advancement in the game. Bowls are available to borrow for beginners and provided you have some flat smooth soled shoes you can start with no expense. When you feel ready you can make yourself available for team selection if you wish to try the competitive element of bowls. We play in men's, ladies and mixed league matches and play many mixed friendly matches in the local area.
We also hold club competitions for our members, with trophies for singles, pairs, triples and beginners as well as the WTM session on Wednesday afternoons. This is open to all comers to try your hand at bowls, meet some members and see if you like the club and would like to join or to just have some friendly match practice.
Why not, without obligation, come along and have a go and see if you like it. All you need to start is a pair of flat soled shoes or trainers and we will provide the rest. During the season, May to September, club coaching sessions are held every Monday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 pm weather permitting. Alternatively if you would like to discuss 'sampling' the game of bowls then contact the club on 07879 486746 or via the Contact link on this web site.
